grounded: hold or stand one's ground, to maintain one's position, be steadfast.

What do you Ground to? Yourself.
Being Grounded means knowing yourself.
Being Grounded means understanding yourself.
Being Grounded means accepting who you are.
Being Grounded means knowing your capabilities.
Being Grounded means awareness of your surroundings.
Being Grounded means knowing your place in the Universe.
Being Grounded means knowing you define your place in the Universe
Being Grounded means acting in a manner that will strengthen your Honor.
Being Grounded means knowing the way in which you act defines who your are.
Being Grounded means an awareness of your part in what is going on around you.
Being Grounded means not allowing your Self to be defined by the words of others.
Being Grounded means not allowing your Self to be defined by the actions of others.
Being Grounded means not allowing the actions of others take your Honor from you.
Being Grounded means not allowing your Self to be defined by changes in circumstances.
While discussing being Grounded we also should mention Centeredness.
Consider Centeredness the keystone of being Grounded.
We are a part of the world, we are not the world.
The world goes on around us not within us.
To be Centered you must have defined the "boundaries" of your Self.
Knowing what is you and what is external to you.
Being Grounded and Centered is essential to any of the sixteen styles of Kung Fu that Kim Possible knows. In fact, it is generally considered that once one is centered, learning any style of martial arts is no harder than learning any other style.
So how do you become "Centered"?
Martial arts uses a technique of teaching very precise, deliberate movements. These forms require singular Focus and concentration on the movement being practiced. Outside distractions can cause the student to lose Focus and concentration and cause him to do the form improperly. So, the student must be able to define himself apart from these "outside influences", isolate them and render them harmless. And there we begin...
"The three elements that must be present in any good technique, be it hard or soft, striking or grappling, are: Centeredness; Balance; and Relaxation. Without these three elements no technique, be it a kick, throw, or joint lock, is going to be very effective."(2)
The student learns to be Grounded in his Self and
not allow the "winds of change"dictate his actions.
He defines himself and his actions not allowing outside influences to do the defining.
Being Grounded to your Self gives you Confidence to not strike out in fear when faced with a confrontation. "Instead, students are taught not to fight or resist an incoming force, but to meet it in softness and "stick" to it, following its motion while remaining in physical contact until the incoming force of attack exhausts itself or can be safely redirected, the result of meeting yang with yin."(1)
[more
Being Grounded and Centered allows us to adapt and be fluid as the outside environment around us changes. "The study of T'ai Chi Ch'üan is, more than anything else, about challenging one's ability to change oneself appropriately in response to outside forces."(1)[more] When we have Grounded ourselves and are Centered, we are comfortable with who we are and carry ourselves with style and grace even in stressful situations.
In being Grounded in your Self and Confident in your abilities you will find it won't be necessary to overreact when uncomfortable or threatened. "Appropriateness means to use ourselves in proportion to the world -- with respect to what is going on. It is about being connected closely to life instead of disengaging and missing. It is about awareness and using awareness well."(3)
While the Confidence that comes from knowing you can defend yourself is, in and of itself, important, to think it is all about physical training is missing the point. When you define your Self, you have to look at your Self. If you see room for improvement then use the opportunity to redirect your Self into someone you will be proud of.

Kim Possible's best friend (since pre-K), Ron Stoppable, wants to be a reporter for the Middleton High school newspaper. Kim agrees to be interviewed by Ron for his story. Later, when going over what Kim said, Ron decides the interview was not interesting enough. So he edits Kim's words so that what he writes is different than what Kim actually said. During the interview Kim said that, "Brick Flagg was totally hot in last weeks game." Ron edits it so it comes out, "Brick Flagg is HOT!". The story makes the school paper and Ron becomes instantly popular, while Kim is put in a tough situation.

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "All right, lets get this hard hitting interview over with."
Ron: "So… What is it like to be you?"

The interview goes on…

Kim Possible © DisneyLater that night at Ron's house, he goes over the recording of the interview and edits away to make the story more interesting.

Kim finds out about the story, the edited interview in the paper, from Her fellow cheerleader and rival Bonnie.
Kim Possible © DisneyBonnie: "Kim, I think it's so great what you did."
Kim: "Which was…?"
Bonnie: "I mean to risk utter embarrassment and total rejection like that."

Bonnie hands Kim the school paper with the front page headline:

"CHEERLEADER KIM POSSIBLE THINKS QUARTERBACK BRICK IS H.O.T. by Ron Stoppable"

Kim Possible © DisneyWith the printing of the paper, the untruth spreads like wildfire, now everyone in Middleton High is under the misconception that Kim likes Brick. (Including Brick!) Kim tries to clear things up, to no avail.

 Later... Kim confronts Ron...
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "So… I think Brick Flagg is hot?!!."
Ron: "Did you see it? My name in lights! Well in ink actually, but still!"
Kim: "RON!!! You ferociously misquoted me!"

Later Ron prints another story, true this time, that exposes tv stunt sensation Adrenel Lynn as a fraud who fakes all her stunts. Adrenel Lynn loses her TV show. After revenge Adrenel Lynn goes after Kim and Ron using Brick as bait. (Whom she thinks Kim likes because she also read Ron's misleading article.)

Kim Possible © DisneyAdrenel Lynn captures Brick, and later Ron in an attempt to lure Kim into the trap. After some struggle, Kim frees Brick and Ron and Adrenel Lynn is taken away by the police.

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Listen. I'm sorry you almost plunged to your death on world wide television."
Brick
: "Kim. Stop. I get it now."
Kim: "You do?"
Brick: "Sure... You had that skinny guy expose Adrenel Lynn so she'd freak out and setup this whole 'save Brick thing', just to prove you dug me. Kim, you're nice and all but you try too hard. If you just asked me out, that's cool, but this is too much. I'm sorry, but it's over."

Ron to Kim: "I 'can't believe it."

Kim: "I know."

Being Grounded means not allowing your Self to be defined
by the words or the beliefs of others.
Not only was Kim "ferociously" misquoted by Ron, Her feelings towards Brick were now ferociously misunderstood by all at Middleton High.

There are times when others will intentionally, or intentionally,
misunderstand where your coming from, who you are.
They will try to paint a picture of you that is false or misleading.
In the midst of the misunderstanding of others you must continue to be Grounded in your Self.
Learn who you are, know who you are.

As the winds of change blow around you, keep your feet on the ground and remain Grounded; Then they will not blow you over.

Kim doesn't allow what others think to deter Her from the greater good, in this case, saving Brick and Ron (who of course wrote the misleading article).
For what Kimness is all about is defending the greater good.
She demonstrates that even when others ferociously misunderstand you,
you should continue on your path and let your actions define who you are.
Irregardless of the high waves and blowing gale around your ship,
keep a steady hand on the rudder of your Self.
Being Grounded will get you through any storm.

Humility is a key to staying Grounded and centered.
With Humility there are no extra handles or buttons attached to your persona for others
to grab onto to pull you around or buttons to push to get amped up over.
Be Grounded in your Self and continue on your path,
fore there is no one that can define you or your path, but you.

Be Like Kim, Stay Grounded Even In the Midst of the Storms of Others'  Misconceptions!

While Kim and Ron are in Paris the power goes out and there are rolling blackouts all over Europe. They go to a small private island where the huge power drain seems to coming from and come across the estate of Senior Senior Sr. (SSS) and his son Senior Senior Jr.

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "That's a reeeeally big light bulb!"
Ron: "No wonder there is no power in Europe."

Later when they are inside the huge estate…

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "I guess what I'm saying is: Energy is a precious resource. It's up to each and every one of us to do our part. So a little ECO awareness might be in order here."
SSS: "Oh, but I am but a simple multi-billionaire. I can't believe that what I do has any effect on anyone."
Kim: "Yaaaa, ummmmm. Your house sucks up so much power it's causing blackouts all over Europe. ...There's a ton of things you can do to make your house more efficient."

And later at the Possible home…

Kim Possible © DisneyTim: "Why didn't you beat him up?!!!"
Kim: "I'm not going to beat up a guy just because he uses too much power."
Jim: "You could have kicked him."
Kim: "I left him some pamphlets."

Being Grounded means not overreacting to situations or using force
that would be inappropriate for the situation.
Appropriateness is using the least amount of force to correct an imbalance.

Kim uses calmness and reason in an attempt to teach
and also redirect the behavior of Senior Senior Sr. to be energy conscious.
The course of action advocated by Kim's two young brothers would be to resort to violence. Violence is rarely the appropriate response to many situations and
should always be used as only the very last resort.

Instead Kim demonstrates that there are other more peaceful ways to redirect
inappropriate and harmful behavior.
Kimness is using the least amount of force to redirect bad behavior
to a more positive direction and shows that you are
Grounded in your Self and Confident in your abilities without the need to overreact.

Be Like Kim and When Needed;
Use the Least Amount of Force to Redirect Bad Behavior!

Kim Possible © DisneyDrakken is finally getting cable tv. But while the cable guy is doing the installation, he accidentally connects the pan-dimensional vortex inducer which Drakken had earlier stolen, to the cable box. When Shego fires the laser cannon at Kim and Ron, the signal goes through the tv and rips a hole in the time space continuum and everyone is sent off to different dimensions.

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Woa!"
Commander Kane: "Lost ensign?"
Kim: "Ummm, No... Yes. Uhhh, not sure really."
Commander Kane: "You must be a transfer from the Zigalon sector."
Kim: "Um, Ok, playing along."

Kim Possible © DisneyCommander Kane: "Well ensign, your aboard the XMS Revenge. A punisher class cruiser. Our mission is to brazenly go wherever we want."
Kim: "I'm in…space?!"
Commander Kane: "Battle Stations!"
Kim: "Battle Stations?"

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Wade… He'll know what's going on."
Wade: "Kim. Come In Kim!"
Kim: "Talk to me Wade."
Wade: "Good thing we were linked when that vortex opened. It gave me a signal to trace."
Kim: "You'll never guess where I am!"
Wade: "Trapped in a tv show."
Kim: "No. I'm in outer…Wait… This is a tv show?"
Wade: "Kim! That was Commander Kane. You're on an episode of Space Passage! Can you get me an autograph?"
Kim: "SCARING ME!"

Kim continually gets pulled into different tv shows, one after the other.

Kim goes through another dimensional vortex and finds herself on 'The Real North Pole' reality show. She gets voted out of the igloo and is told she has to turn in her fish. Being pulled through the vortex again, Kim now finds herself with Shego in a Medical drama show. Back through the vortex, Kim finds herself on 'Evil Eye For The Bad Guy' where Dr. Drakken is getting a makeover. Later, after Drakken serves lunch, he tries to use his dimensional compiler to get back to reality, but uses the wrong frequency and causes a new problem. Ron orders Nacos, grande size, in a Bueno Nacho commercial that gets pulled into their reality. Then Kim finds herself in a disco being attacked by some girl in a wig. Next a tv stunt reality show comes to Kim and Shego. And finally in another show, Kim saves Ron from a monkey stampede on the Simian Channel.

A vacation or a road trip to a new place is exciting.
New things to see, new things to do and to experience.
What makes it exciting is that new places, ideas and even new people
give us the opportunity to grow and learn.
When you are Grounded and centered you have no fear of new experiences and can
take the opportunity to learn new things and expand your paradigm.
The world as you see it, as you understand and interpret it,
as you would describe it, is your reality, your paradigm.
We interpret the world around us based on what we know, understand and can categorize. Those experiences not within the domain of our paradigm and
can not be defined by us, are usually filtered out.

Back in the days of tall ships a captain took his ship to the remote islands of the South Pacific. When they landed on the shore, with their rowboats, the islanders who came to greet them asked how they came to cross the large body of water surrounding their island in such little boats. The captain pointed out the three masted ship a couple of hundred yards off shore. The islanders could not see the ship just off shore. The captain again and again pointed to his ship, but the islanders just couldn't see it. The ship was so far removed from the normal frame of reference, the paradigm, of the islanders that they simply could not see it.

What we do not understand, that which does not fit our paradigm we filter out.
It can be ideas or even objects as demonstrated above.
To incorporate new ideas into our reality,
our understanding requires what is usually referred to as a "paradigm shift".
On a personal level, a paradigm shift allows us to integrate new
information that does not fit our old understanding.

Kim has found herself in situations where she was not dealing with just new ideas and concepts, but was moved into totally new realities.
Being able to interact successfully with entirely new realities and not losing one's Self in the new paradigm requires that one be successfully Grounded in one's Self.

Like a rudder of a boat in swirling waters, that keeps the boat facing in the desired direction, being Grounded keeps you moving in your desired direction
when things around you are changing.

When Kim finds Herself in a new reality,
even though She has no immediate frame of reference;
She is able to deal with and handle the new challenges and opportunities put before Her.
Kim's Kung Fu training has given Her the Grounding and mental flexibility to adapt to and overcome any new situation no matter how far removed from Her existing paradigm.

No matter how great the change, new school, new house, new friends;
being Grounded enables you to use the tools you have developed
to take advantage of new opportunities and exciting new paradigms.

Walk with Kim into the Opportunities of New Challenges and New Paradigms.

Life may sometime throw you a curve ball.
You can get an injury, you can loose something that you always counted on,
you can move to a new place where all that was familiar is gone.
No matter what changes occur in your life,
if you remain Grounded and Centered in your Self,
you will be able to handle your Self with Confidence.

Center on your aspirations, your dreams and the goals you have set for your Self.

These will provide the perspective on who you are and keep you Grounded.

Even though Kim's life has been turned up side down by turning into a monkey,
She still Focuses on the tasks at hand.
Getting free and getting turned back into a human.

Sometimes life can be one step forward and two steps back.
(Though usually not back on the evolutionary scale!)
Life is an ever changing dynamic.
Like the ever changing and churning surface of the ocean,
sometimes the changes in life are small and sometimes they are big.

If you find that you have fallen in a hole that seems too deep to climb from,
Center your Self, remain Grounded.
Don't "freak out".
Look around you. What you see is not you.
You have not changed just because your in a hole.
You are not your surroundings. You are still you.
Remain Grounded, asses your options, and choose which direction is best for you.
Take the time to Center your Self and,
Always, Always Always keep moving forward.

Even when you think you have been dealt a setback,
your natural Kimness will give you the ability to
move forward through life with enthusiasm.

Center on Your Natural Kimness, Keep Moving Forward!
