an Exploration Into the Nature of Kimness©

Kim Possible © Disney

humility: the quality or condition of being humble; modest sense of one's own importance.
humble: not arrogant; courteously respectful.

Humility may initially, bring to mind an intentional pattern of behavior, an external display.
Kim Possible demonstrates it is actually an inward journey.
Outwardly; Humble behavior is what others may see, of greater importance is that,
Inwardly; Humility provides you with a balanced and honest perspective on the yourself.
The perspective of Humility embodied within Kimness allows a more accurate and balanced defining of your Self.  You can believe "I can do anything" and yet be Humble.
The most renowned people in history are know to have been Humble in their nature.
Kim demonstrates that you can stand up, achieve your goals, and still be a good Friend. Humility allows a sensitivity to and the realization of the consequence of
our shared experiences.
Humility also demonstrates a willingness to stand up for what is right.
Christ washed the feet of his disciples as a symbol of His Humility.
Yet, in another instance, he threw away the tables of the moneychangers in the Temple.
Kim Possible is all about standing up and doing the right thing.
Kimness includes the understanding that being Humble
does not mean tolerating wrong doing.
Being Humble expresses a deep commitment to altruism without the sacrifice of one's Self.
Kimness demonstrates Humility does not mean being a doormat for others.
Kim stands up for Herself, as She stands up for others.
Being Humble does not mean tolerating the abuse of anyone including your Self.
Kim shows that Humility is not fear.
Humility allows the Focus to differentiate one's Self from hooligans and evil villains. And;
Humility protects you from the trap of lording over others or elevating your Self above others. Humility displays the willingness to take Responsibility for your actions,
and a willingness to admit fault.
Buddha is known to have eaten so little during his quest for enlightenment, that he could encircle the whole of his waist with his two hands.
Yet the figure we see most often of Buddha is as a fat and laughing man.
Buddha learned that Nirvana is to Live Life and Enjoy Life. Kim enjoys Her Activities, Her Family, Her Friends, Her Life. Kimness demonstrates that Humility is not suffering and,
in fact; Humility opens the door for a Joyous Life.
Humility is a key personal goal of many religious doctrines and spiritual philosophies.
The common thread is: To be Humble is to be Oneself, to know Your Self.
The Strength comes from Humility is key to the Strength of Kimness.
Humility does take Courage, and as you embrace Humility, you become Stronger.
Kimness embraces Humility like a fortress around your Heart and allows Joy to grow within.

Kim Possible © DisneyKim Possible's biggest fan is Her little cousin Joss.

Kim Possible © DisneyJoss: "... (I'm) Just a nobody, stuck in the middle of nowhere."
Kim: "I was just a nobody. I mean not a nobody. Nobody's a nobody. Everyone's somebody, right?"
Joss: "Is this supposed to make me feel better?"
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "I'm just a regular person. I'm into cheerleading... boys... sometimes. You know, just regular stuff."
Joss: "You do incredible stuff! You save the world!"

Kim:
"Joss, I'm just me. That's all I ever try to be. And it just turned out that sometimes, being me is enough to save the world."
Joss: "And that's why being you is so cool!"
Kim: " Try being you. It will be even cooler!"

Kim demonstrates to her young cousin that being her Self and understanding her place in her world is key to one of the most important facets of a Joyful life: Humility.
While Kim knows sixteen styles of Kung Fu; Kim never forgets where she is on Her path.
She can demonstrate Her mastery of Kung Fu in battling multiple henchmen at one time.
And yet, as an average teenage girl She is still shy and unsure of Herself when trying to dish with Her latest crush.

Kim goes on to say that She only ever tries to be Her Self.
For to venture outside the bounds of one's abilities and one's nature is
contrary to the path you find yourself on.
Humbly accepting that; "It just turn(s) out that sometimes, being me is enough to save the world".
In fact, just being your Self is always more than enough.

Kim never falls prey to self-satisfying self-aggrandizement and avoids
the pitfall of self-serving and destructive pride.
Kim being the Humble mentor and friend,
Her own needs and concerns set aside,
as She serves to help her cousin on her path.
Kim's actions demonstrate that there is fulfillment and Joy from helping others.

Put another way;
She Cares.

"Try being you. It will be even cooler!"
Humility is just another word for Caring.

The Humility of Kimness is found in the Caring for Others.

Kim is shopping at Club Banana.
Kim Possible © DisneyMonique:
"Oh my gosh. How much do you love Cleo's Cargos."
Kim: "Way Much!"
Kim and
Monique: "Do you have them in Giza Green?"
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "JINX! You owe me a soda!"

Kim Possible © DisneyMonique:
"Do you belong to our Club Banana Club?"
Kim shows her Club Banana Club Membership Card to Monique the cashier.
Kim: "Charter Member."

Kim Possible © DisneyMonique: "Kim Possible!!? I thought it was you! The stuff you do is so amazing!"
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Ahh, It's no big. But thanks."

Kim Possible © DisneyMonique: "I'm Monique... I Just moved here.."
Kim: "COOL! Where do you go to school?"
Monique: "Middleton High."

Kim: "Me Too!"
Monique: "I start Monday."

Kim: "You totally have to let me show you around."

Kim does not deny or try to hide that she has done great things. Humility does not deny good deeds that one has performed. The more people talk about the good they have done, the more others will be encouraged to do the same. Good and goodness stand on their own and exist not only in the past, but also in the present, and into the future. To deny the good that been accomplished is to lessen the impact of those acts. Past, Present and Future.

For instance: If someone asks about your relationship with a good friend: "Is that person a good friend?" and your response is: "No. A just friend." You have degraded your relationship with your good friend. Even if your friend never hears your words; You have degraded the relationship in your heart and it will take effort to rebuild. Our friends are part of what we are.

Deeds are no different in that you have a relationship with your actions. If you deny the good you have done, then you have denied a part of who you are. Humility includes is the ability to admit the good things you have done in your life. Not to brag, just acknowledge and use those good deeds as an example for others. They are as important as the clothes you chose to wear today. Good deeds show every bit as much of who you are and what you stand for.

Humility is not shame.
Accept you're own accomplishments not with self-serving pride, but with Joy!

Kim, also, shows another aspect of Humility with Her words: "Thanks"
A word that means so much.
"Thanks" really means:
I thank you for recognizing me for who I am.
There is no greater gift than being accepted for who you are.
Accept the gifts you are given, like Kim with poise and grace.
That is an aspect of Humility.
Humility and service(good deeds) go hand and hand...

Kim, lastly, offers to show her new friend around Middleton High.
The Joy and enthusiasm, which cannot be captured here, that Kim expresses,
Touches The Heart.

Live by Kim's example.
Being Humble adds a Joyous dimension to being strong, confident, poised,
friendly, outgoing and yes, even successful!

Like Kim Says: "I can do anything!"... You can do anything!
Some of the most successful achievers and captains of industry today are Humble by nature.
They are know as "level 5" managers
and are the most sought after leaders in the business world today.(1)

A Humble girl finds it easy to help those around her achieve their best.
Everyone does better. A rising tide raises all boats.

Always be and express who you are and do your best; Whatever lies in front of you!

Let Kimness be Your Surf Board and Catch the Wave!

@Disney

On a school ski, trip that Kim's mom and dad are chaperoning, Kim's dad, Dr. Possible overhears Kim telling Ron that because her parents are on the trip; She is "in humiliation Nation". Kim later finds out her parents overheard what she had said and apologizes to them.
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Mom, I am soooo sorry."

Kim's Mom:
"Don't worry honey. Your father and I were teenagers once. Sometimes we forget what it's like."

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "You Rock Mom!"
Kim's Mom:
"You Rock Too Kimmie!"

Humility includes the ability to admit you have harmed others and to take action to make it right.
Kim shows the Humility and Courage to own up to Her having wronged Her Parents.
Few times do you hear Courage as an aspect Humility.
Humility, in fact, takes a good deal of Courage.
Courageous is the man who does not need to defend himself from the humiliations cast by others.
Courageousness is demonstrated by walking away from the
need to defend your ego to prove your self-worth.
Your self-worth, your value as a person
comes from your ability to bring peace first to your self, and then to others.

Your self-worth is dictated by your actions.
And words of self-praise should be left on the cutting-room floor.

If you look closely at what happened as a consequence of Kim's Humble and Courageous
action above, you will see something Magical.

Kim's Courageous Humility brought the Gift of Joy.

It brought Joy to Kim's Mom that her Daughter could be so strong to admit wrong.
It brought Joy to Kim that Her mother understood and felt empathy for her Daughter's situation.
They both shared in the Joy and Love they brought to each other.

If you watch your world you will see this happen more often than you think.
Humility brings Love and Joy to you as a Magical Gift.
It comes not as a reward, but as a Gift from Spirit;
as Spirit thanks You for Your Humility and Courage.

Kimness is having the Courage is Express Your Humilty!

@Disney

Kim and Her best friend Ron are working at Bueno Nacho.
Kim Possible © DisneyRon: "You just can't stand that I'm better than you at something!"
Kim: "You wouldn't even have this stupid job if I didn't fill out your application!"

Later: Kim calls Her Mom.
Kim Possible © Disney
Kim: "Mom, reassure me... I just had a fight with Ron. He was all high horse 'cause I baled on work. And I really need to stop Drakken but, Ron thinks I quit because I can't take him being good at something... which would be way pathetic!"
Kim's Mom:
"I need a suture here. "
Kim: "Mom? Do you have me on speaker? "
Kim's Mom:
"Sorry honey. I have both hands on a fifty-two year old male's temporal lobe..."
Kim: "MOM!"
Kim's Mom:
"Gotta' go honey."

Later... In Drakken's Lair.
Kim Possible © Disney
Ron:"I gooned on assistant manager power. You were right."
Kim: "I did resent your superior burrito technique. You're entitled to excel... Forgive Me?"
Ron:
"No Duh!... Forgive Me?"
Kim: "TOTALLY!"

Humility often brings to mind a person who already has it.

And while most have some degree of Humility, most of are not bastions of Humility.
Kim exemplifies one who works towards becoming stronger
in the constant forward progress of personal growth.

Above we see that Kim and Her Mom interact on multiple levels.
On the surface it appears that because Kim's Mom is busy with brain surgery,
she is ignoring what her Daughter is saying.
But closer examination reveals there was nothing that Kim's Mom
could add to what Kim had already said.
For you see that while it seems as though Kim was venting to Her Mom
over the fight between Her and Ron,
Kim was actually telling the story to Her Self!

Kim tells Her Mom that "Ron Thinks" that Kim can't take Ron being good at something.
But that is not what Ron thinks... It is what Kim thinks.
She knows it deep inside, but she doesn't quite see it yet...
She also revealed what She thinks of Herself for feeling this way... "Way Pathetic!"
This is Kim's natural Kimness speaking to Herself.
Kim's inner-self is actually talking to Kim, not Mom!

Sometimes it takes time for you to hear your own inner truth.

This is what happens next.
When Kim again sees Ron (albeit they are captured by Drakken and Shego),
Kim sees the truth, that She had failed her Humility, and Her friendship with Ron.
In the end, Courage and Humility gathered, Kim stands up and does the right thing and apologizes to Ron for being selfish.
Humility is the ability, without fear, to be open and honest with others and your Self.

Stand Beside Kim and Face Your Mistakes! So Not The Big!

Kim and the Middleton High Cheer Squad are finishing up practice.
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "OK! Great practice team!"

Bonnie takes Kim aside.
Kim Possible © Disney
Bonnie: "Kim. Can we chat?"
Kim: "Sure Bonnie. I have time for anyone on the squad. What's your  'ish'!"
Bonnie:
"Well… It's really your  'ish'. You seem tired."
Kim: "Well I did fly in from Abu Dabi this morning. Rescued an ambassador."

Kim Possible © DisneyBonnie: "Which is nice… But you've got to ask yourself, 'Did you give the squad one-hundred-and-ten-percent today?' "
Kim: "One-hundred-and-twenty-percent Bonnie!"
Bonnie: "I happen to think the squad deserves a captain who gives… like ah, one-hundred-and-thirty-percent."

Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Someone like…?"
Bonnie:
"Me!"
Kim: "Look, If you wanna make a play for captain... Take it to the squad. If they want Bonnie instead of Kim… Super for Bonnie."

Days later... After Bonnie has organized a fund raiser, picked out new uniforms for the squad and came up with a new cheer.
Cheerleader 1: "Uh, I really think we should wait for Kim before we decide who's gonna be captain."
Bonnie: "She's gonna be forever! I want this captain thing decided now!
"
Kim Possible © DisneyKim: "Relax Bonnie, I'm back."

Bonnie: "Let's do it."
Kim: "Fine by me... I vote for Bonnie as the new captain."

Bonnie: "You do?"
Kim: "Well, the fund raising, the awesome uniforms and the new cheer, I've got to admit... You Rock! "

Bonnie: "REALLY?!!!"
Kim: "So all in favor of Bonnie."
Kim and all the squad raise their hands.
Kim: "You worked really hard for this."

Kim and Bonnie have had a long running rivalry.
Bonnie usually does what every she can to undermine and embarrass Kim.
Kim always stands up for Herself as She would against
any unfairness or injustice done against anyone else.
But this time Bonnie does things differently.
Bonnie worked long and hard. Didn't do anything against Kim, just worked as hard as she could to prove to the cheer squad that she was worthy of being their captain.
Kim saw and admired the effort that Bonnie put forth to become captain.
Kim's personal Humility and Her sensitivity towards another person provided
the opportunity to see that Bonnie put forth an honest effort.
So Kim decided that Bonnie earned the position and stepped aside for Her friend and rival.

Friend and Rival?

Yes... Some people in our lives are both our friends and our rivals.
This often happens between siblings, where they compete against each other in some sport and both become better. There are recent examples of this in pro-football and pro-hockey.
Many times our rivals are our best friends and we are better for it.

Rivals may attempt to do us harm(don't let them), one day but may not the next.
While defending yourself is appropriate when aggressive action is present, and it is certainly wise to be wary of rivals who have wronged you in the past, it is not the nature of Kimness
to use force when the aggression is not present.
It is a waste of energy and would be like striking the wind.

"A weed that does not grow, does not need to be cut down.", said Sensi.

Humility does not hold a grudge, and does not strike at transgressions in the past.
Humility allows you to be fluid and meet each new situation, each day, anew.

While Kim's Humility allowed Her, in this case, to set aside Her own ambitions and take the road less traveled, it is not true that doing otherwise would have been wrong.
Kim could have continued to fight for Her position as squad leader.
There would have been nothing wrong with that either.
Kim has also worked hard for Her position as captain
and even brought the team to the regional championships.
So for Kim to have continued to seek to remain captain would not have been wrong.

Humility does not mean rolling over for others.
Honest competition makes us better and stronger.
In this case, either course of action would have been... The right choice.
But without Humility, Kim would have simply fought for Her position as captain out of spite.
Kim wouldn't have seen that there was another, just as Honorable choice.

Have Humility Like Kim, And Your Choices Will Multiply.
And Every Choice Will Be The Right Choice!

@Disney

Kim's oft teenage rival Bonnie gets to sit at the Senior table 'cause she wears the latest styles. Kim and Monique can't sit at the senior table 'cause they aren't stylish enough.
Kim Possible © DisneyMonique:
"That's what gets me. You save the world... FREQUENTLY! You are obviously a better person than Bonnie."
Kim: "OH Stop Monique. I'm no better than anyone else."

Humility -
Humility equals Joy.
Humility earns Honor and Respect.
Humility provides psychological Balance.
And Balance in your life and actions lead to Humility.
Humility is not hard. Humility is a Natural Healthy State.
Even at the urging, prodding and encouragement of Friends,
Kim reminds them, and Herself, that She is just like everyone else.
Monique doesn't realize it yet, but that's one of Kim's most precious qualities.
Let Kim's example of Humility and Courage be the cornerstone of your Pyramid.

The Capstone of Kimness is Humility. Let Kimness be the Foundation on Which You Stand!

@Disney

the seeming sacrifice of Humility brings the gift of Balance;
the willingness to acknowledge that as you give, you shall you receive...

"You will Fly,
Or I will take your fears away."
